Diamond League Final 2024: India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra lay at the second position in the Diamond League summit clash on Saturday and was behind Grenada's Anderson Peters in the men's javelin event. He registered his best throw of 87.86m and fell agonizingly short by just 0.1m behind Peters.

It was a chilly night in Brussels, where the temperature was between 10-13 degrees Celsius and Neeraj finished as the runner-up for the second consecutive time. Last year he failed to retain his title by losing to Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch. At that time, he registered a throw of 83.80m as Vadlejch clinched the title by throwing at a distance of 84.24m. On Saturday, Neeraj performed better than Eugene but still missed winning the title to Grenada's Anderson Peters.

Neeraj threw at a distance of 86.87m in his first attempt and was just behind Anderson Peters. He was just 1m behind Peter's first throw of 87.87m. Neeraj couldn't improve his record on the second attempt as he threw at a distance of 83.49m but bounced back on his third attempt by throwing at a distance of 87.86m.

Although Anderson Peters didn't improve his throw in the third attempt Neeraj was inching closer towards his personal best record as he was behind by just 0.1m.

Both the javelin throwers gave each other a hard time as Germany's Julian Weber came close to them when he threw at a distance of 85.97m in his first attempt. But then he lost his plot in the next few attempts as threw at the distances of 82.61m, 82.15m, and 81.46m respectively.

The Indian fans were hoping that Neerak would go past Anderson Peters but he failed to do so on his fourth attempt as he threw at a distance of 82.04m. He was seen struggling due to his groin injury and that was quite evident when he took his runup. The Indian javelin thrower threw at the distance of 83.30m and 86.46m in his last two attempts.
