World Chess Championship 2024: Andrei Filatov, who is the President of the Russian Chess Federation has accused China's Ding Liren of deliberating losing the World Chess Championship summit clash to India's D Gukesh. Peter Heine Nielsen, who is Ukraine's chess coach shared the screenshot of the report, which the Russian news agency TASS published, in which Filatov urged FIDE to investigate the summit clash between Ding and Gukesh. Filatov reckoned that the error that Ding committed turned the tide of the game in Gukesh's favor and that sent both the professionals and the fans into a frenzy.

“The result of the last game caused bewilderment among professionals and chess fans. The actions of the Chinese chess player in the decisive segment are extremely suspicious and require a separate investigation by FIDE. Losing the position in which Ding Liren was difficult even for a first-class player. The defeat of the Chinese chess player in today's game raises a lot of questions and looks like a deliberate one," Filatov was quoted as saying to the agency.

The move, which was criticized, occurred during the last stages of the match and it was inching toward a tie. During an intense match, Ding committed a critical miscalculation. In order to save his king and force a tie-breaker, he made a mistake. This let Gukesh take advantage of the setup, where his active pieces and pawn structure helped him win the match.

Kramnik is not happy with the quality of the final

Filatov wasn't the only one who was disappointed by Ding's error as Gukesh became the youngest ever to have won the World Championship title at 18 years of age. Ex-champion Vladimir Kramnik wasn't impressed with the kind of sport that was played during the summit clash.

After the game was over, Kramnik let out his frustration about the game's quality and thus described the blunder made by Ding Laren as "childish".

Kramnik took to his official X account and said, "No comment. Sad. End of chess as we know it. Never yet has a WC title been decided by such a childish one-move blunder." He also slammed the kind of match it turned out to be after six championships and called it, "weak".

"Frankly, I am very disappointed by today's game (Game 6). Even Game 5 was not extremely high level, but today it was really — for a professional — it was a weak play from both players. It's a very disappointing level," he concluded.
