India vs New Zealand Highlights, Paris Olympics 2024 Men's Hockey: India Register 3-2 Victory In Their First Match

India have kicked off their Paris Olympics 2024 campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over New Zealand. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh scored the late winner as he converted the penalty stroke.

India have taken a 3-2 lead in the dying minutes of the match as skipper Harmanpreet Singh brilliantly converted the penalty stroke. New Zealand have called for an extra field player as their goalkeeper goes off.

After getting so many back-to-back PC's, finally New Zealand managed to find success as Simon Child's goal for New Zealand made it 2-2.

IND 2-2 NZ (8') 4th quarter

India have looked lethal early in the final quarter and have created multiple key chances but couldn't capitalise. The scoreline remains 2-1.

IND 2-1 NZ (3') 4th quarter

The match is heading towards the final quarter now and India are still 2-1 ahead in the game. New Zealand will try to create early problems for the Men in Blue in their hunt for an equaliser.

IND 2-1 NZ 

India's continuous attacks have forced New Zealand to play deep in this quarter. They are playing too defensively at the moment. Can India capitalise on their chances and extend their lead?

IND 2-1 NZ (10') 3rd quarter

India have taken a 2-1 lead here as continuous attacks early in the third quarter provided promising chances. Vivek did well in finding the back of the net. There was a long check from the TV referee whether the ball went completely inside the goal or if there was any foul play. The goal was given in the end.

IND 2-1 NZ (4') 3rd quarter

India came up with a brilliant box penetration early in the third quarter and a fine shot was saved by the New Zealand goalkeeper.

IND 1-1 NZ (2') 3rd quarter

The score remained 1-1 at the half-time. Both teams will go all guns blazing in the remaining part of the match.

IND 1-1 NZ (HT)

India have scored the equaliser as they managed to convert the penalty corner. It was saved at first go but Mandeep was quick enough to react and score on the rebound. India are back in the contest.

IND 1-1 NZ (10') 2nd quarter 

New Zealand are defending brilliantly today and Indian attackers have failed to capitalise on their chances so far in the game. India are losing too many balls in the mid-field.

IND 0-1 NZ (4') 2nd quarter

The first quarter has ended and New Zealand did well to maintain their 1-0 lead despite a couple of close chances for India.

India's hunt for an equaliser has got intense as the look to bounce back with continuous attacks. However, New Zealand have done well so far in dealing with the Indian attack with commendable defence.

IND 0-1 NZ (11') 

Against the run of play, New Zealand have taken a 1-0 lead in the match as they have converted their first penalty corner brilliantly. Same Lane was the goal-scorer.

IND 0-1 NZ (8')

Sanjay did well there to bag that shot inside the box but Surjeet couldn't get the deflection to deceive the New Zealand goalkeeper. 

IND 0-0 NZ (4')

The action has started in the first quarter in the men's hockey match between India and New Zealand.

Indian team underwent a three-day training camp in renowned adventurer Mike Horn's base in Switzerland to strengthen the mental toughness of the players ahead of the Paris Olympics. The arrangements were made by renowned South African mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton, who will assist the Indian men's hockey team in Paris.

India's legendary goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has already announced that he will retire from international hockey after the Paris Olympics 2024. A career that spanned 18 years, the veteran has represented India in 328 matches including appearances in three Olympic Games and multiple Commonwealth Games and World Cups, and will be playing in his fourth Olympics in Paris.

The Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian team is drawn in Pool B alongside Belgium (World No. 2), Australia (World No. 3), Argentina (World No. 7), New Zealand (World No. 10), and Ireland (World No. 11).

Defenders: Jarmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Harmanpreet Singh, Sumit, Sanjay

Midfielders: Rajkumar Pal, Shamsher Singh, Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad

Alternate players: Nilakanta Sharma, Jugraj Singh, Krishan Bahadur Pathak,

India won the bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics but they will be looking for an improved result and medal in Paris. India are the most successful hockey team in Olympics history having won 12 medals so far but hasn't lived up to the expectations from the past so many editions. They last won a gold medal way back in 1980.
