The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Tuesday confirmed that India, Germany, Qatar and four other countries have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games and have been invited to present their projects to the IOC's Future Host Commission next month.

Along with India, Germany, Qatar, Hungary, the Republic of Korea, South Africa and Turkiye are currently in continuous dialogue with the IOC regarding their interest in hosting the 2036 Games.

The IOC said the projects will be assessed on several technical parameters, including venue master plans, athlete experience, funding strategy, political and public support, Games delivery capabilities and legacy plans aimed at creating long-term benefits for host communities.

However, the world governing body did not provide an exact timeline for the presentations, which are scheduled to take place in November.

IOC's Official Statement

"The Interested Parties currently in Continuous Dialogue with the IOC, with a stated interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, are (in alphabetical order): Germany, Hungary, India, Qatar, Republic of Korea, South Africa and Turkiye," the IOC said in a statement.

"The Interested Parties have been invited to present their projects to the Future Host Commission in November," it added.

The IOC also made it clear that no other interested parties will be considered for the 2036 Olympics after October 31, with the November presentations marking the next important stage of the revamped host selection process.

India has selected Ahmedabad as its preferred city for the mega sporting event, which has never been held in the country. India submitted its Expression of Interest to host the 2036 Olympics in 2024.

The host selection process was subsequently paused by newly elected IOC President Kirsty Coventry, who said fresh feedback would be sought from IOC members as part of efforts to streamline the process.

Countries Excited To Host The Elite Event

Coventry said an athlete's Olympic experience remains with them for the rest of their life and therefore delivering the best possible experience for athletes must be the starting point for every prospective host.

The IOC introduced a Strategic Dialogue stage in June as part of its review of the Olympic host selection process. The new stage is aimed at short-listing interested parties with developed projects.

Candidate cities will be assessed on criteria including cost control and clear timelines for completing key project milestones.

Following the November presentations, the process will move into Strategic Dialogue, replacing the earlier Targeted Dialogue as the next stage. Targeted Dialogue will remain the final phase of the revamped process, with that stage scheduled to begin in 2028.

"During this new transitional stage, they will be expected to provide an initial response to the Future Host Questionnaire and core financial guarantees," the IOC said.

At the conclusion of the Targeted Dialogue, IOC members will receive a report from the Future Host Commission.
