Barcelona vs Valencia, La Liga 2024-25: Barcelona returned to winning ways in La Liga as they registered a monumental 7-1 victory over Valencia at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

This was their 13th win of the season and they are placed third as they put an end to their four-match winless streak and are now placed third in the La Liga points table. They have 42 points under the belt, three behind second-placed Atletico Madrid and seven adrift of leaders Real Madrid.

Fermin Lopez, who was included in the starting XI after a while, put up a remarkable performance, struck twice for the Catalans in the first half, and added two assists.

Relegation-threatened Valencia are 19th with 16 points after their first defeat in five matches in all competitions.

Frenkie de Jong opened the scoring for the hosts just after three minutes with a right-footed shot from the centre of the box that found the bottom left corner after Lamine Yamal's accurate cross.

The star midfielder continued to impress and looked in great touch as he played a key role in Barca doubling the lead. His pass allowed Alejandro Balde to set up Ferran Torres, who steered the ball into the net.

Raphinha added a third before the 15-minute mark, taking advantage of a mistake by Giorgi Mamardashvili. The Valencia goalkeeper was caught in no-man's land as he raced out to close down the Brazilian, who calmly slid the ball into the empty net.

Lopez put the icing on the cake in a frenetic first half, adding a fourth in 24 minutes and a fifth before the break with a powerful long-range shot from the right.

Valencia got the consolation soon after the half-time break as Hugo Durro found the back of the net with a shot from close range.

Barcelona added to the list as substitute Rober Lewandowski scored Barca's sixth goal before an unfortunate own goal from Cesar Tarrega wrapped up the scoring for Hansi Flick's side.

The Catalans headed into the game with a massive boost after clinching a famous 5-4 comeback win in their Champions League match against Benfica, which earned them a spot in the competition's last 16 stage.

They will face Atalanta in their final league-phase match of Europe's top-tier club competition on Wednesday.
