In a heartbreaking development around Lionel Messi and Argentina Football Team's visit to India, sponsors have confirmed that the friendly match will not take place in November. Argentina Football Association (AFA) also confirmed that the national team would play only in Angola next month.
Indian Football fans who were looking forward to seeing Lionel Messi-led Argentina play in Kerala will have to wait for at least a year more. As per reports in the Argentine media, the officials in AFA have labelled Kerala’s “lack of readiness” and delays in completing logistical arrangements within the agreed timeline as a reason for cancellation.
So, no Messi in India? Fans can assured that the star footballer will be visiting India as part of his G.O.A.T tour scheduled to take place in December.
The latest development has once again raised concerns regarding planning, coordination, and communication among the stakeholders.

As per IANS, "A political uproar has also emerged, with Congress leaders accusing the state government of announcing the event prematurely without receiving formal confirmation from the AFA."
This situation highlights a persistent issue in international sports events — the challenge of balancing political appearances with clear procedures.
For Indian supporters, this setback is especially disheartening, considering the substantial local fan base for Argentina and Messi in Kerala and across the country.
For now, the wait for Messi continues and with it, Kerala’s hopes of scripting a historic football moment remain in suspense.

With the next likely date of March 2026 now surfacing, it remains to be seen if that is going to be feasible as during that time Kerala and the entire political leadership will be busy with the Assembly polls which in most likelihood will happen in April or latest by May.
