Inter Miami vs Philadelphia Union, Major League Soccer: Lionel Messi made a sensational comeback for Inter Miami as he bagged two goals in their Major League Soccer match against Philadelphia Union on Saturday, September 15.

Inter Miami defeated Philadelphia 3-1 with Messi making notable contributions after returning from injury.

Messi missed over three months of MLS action due to a combination of the 2024 Copa America and a subsequent injury.

He picked up an ankle injury during the Copa America final between Argentina and Columbia whereas his last appearance in the league came on June 1.

The Argentine star started and played the full 90 minutes for Inter on his return.

Despite the scoreline, the Union largely played a tight match against the home side.

The Philadelphia Union scored first in Saturday's clash at DRV PNK Stadium, scoring just over a minute in.

Mikael Uhre danced past a defender before slotting a shot to beat Drake Callendar, giving the Union an early lead in the fixture.

However, their 1-0 lead didn't last long as Messi had other plans. The 34-year-old found the back of the net for his first goal in the 26th minute, picking a corner after receiving a pass from Luis Suarez.

Just four minutes later, Jordi Alba was credited with an assist due to some Messi magic as the Inter Miami skipper netted again in the 30th minute to give his side a lead they would never relinquish.

Suarez scored a stunner of his own just before halftime but, unfortunately for the Uruguayan, it was called back for offside.

In the dying seconds of the contest, Messi made yet another contribution as he found Suarez with an unbelievable assist and the Uruguayan made no mistake with the finish to give his side a 3-1 lead.

Inter Miami already have the best record in the league and look more lethal with their star player's remarkable comeback.

They stand at the top of the standings with 19 wins and 62 points after 28 matches.
