India's star athlete Neeraj Chopra came up with a huge frustrating reaction as he couldn't bag the top-podium spot yet again, finishing second in the Lausanne Diamond League on Thursday.

Neeraj once again wasn't at his best on the night but still managed to register his best throw of the season of 89.49m in his last attempt.

The 26-year-old fell just short of breaching the much-awaited 90m mark. His reaction to the final effort said everything about what he was feeling.

Soon after his final attempt, Neeraj's anger and frustration were evident.

Neeraj is a two-time Olympic medallist now, having won a gold at the Tokyo Games 2020 and bagged a silver at the recently-concluded Paris Games.

He is now totally focused on breaching the elusive 90m barrier in the javelin, a milestone that has been achieved by only a few at the global level.

At the Paris Olympics 2024, Neeraj registered a massive throw of 89.45m but lost to Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who set an Olympic record with a 92.97m throw to win a historic gold medal.

Neeraj improved his effort on Thursday with a throw of 89.49m but finished second behind Grenada's Anderson Peters, who threw 90.61m at the Lausanne Diamond League.

Julian Weber of Germany took the third spot with 87.08m.

"The feeling wasn't great at first, but I´m happy with my throw, especially the second (career) best throw on my last attempt. It was a tough start, but the comeback was really nice and I enjoyed the fighting spirit I showed," Chopra said after the event.

"Even though my early throws were around 80-83m, I pushed hard in the last two attempts finishing strong. Competing at this high level, it's important to stay mentally tough and fight through," he added.

Neeraj currently stands in joint third spot with Weber in the Diamond League standings with 15 points. Peters jumped to the top spot with 21 points.
