Everton beat Manchester United, Premier League Match: The Manchester United vs Everton match in the ongoing Premier League 2025-26 season witnessed chaos, with midfielder Idrissa Gueye receiving a red card for physically attacking his own teammate. Despite going down to 10 men early in the game, Everton went on to register a famous 1-0 win at the iconic Old Trafford on Monday.

Everton's players were face-to-face when Michael Keane shoved Gueye, who responded with a left-handed slap to the defender's face. Referee Tony Harrington then showed Gueye a red card. The instance took place pretty early in the game after United were allowed an easy box penetration, and the visitors almost conceded a goal. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and winger Iliman Ndiaye intervened to walk Gueye away.

The Premier League match centre posted on X: "The referee's call of red card to Gueye for violent conduct was checked and confirmed by VAR — with the action deemed to be a clear strike to the face of Keane."

Gueye had recovered the ball inside Everton's penalty area and passed it into space — likely thinking Keane would move toward it. However, the latter didn't, and the United captain stepped in and shot the ball wide.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the only goal of the match in the 29th minute. On the other hand, Gueye issued an apology after the game. "I want to apologise first to my teammate, Michael Keane. I take full responsibility for my reaction," the Senegalese player said on his Instagram account. "I also apologise to my teammates, the staff, the fans and the club.

"What happened does not reflect who I am or the values I stand for," Gueye's post continued. "Emotions can run high, but nothing justifies such behaviour. I'll make sure it never happens again."

With five wins and 18 points under their belt, Everton are placed 11th in the Premier League points table, whereas United stand 10th. The Red Devils haven't won a match in their last three league fixtures.
