US Open 2025: The tennis maestro Novak Djokovic withstood a stern test from Taylor Fritz, sealing the missed chances by the American to lock in his place in the semifinal (53rd Grand Slam semi-final) of the ongoing US Open 2025 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, continuing his quest for a record-extending 25th major crown.
In a stunning display of Djokovic's mastery over Fritz, the 38-year-old dispatched last year’s finalist 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, extending his flawless ATP head-to-head record to 11-0 over the American.
After a slow beginning and fighting through injuries, Djokovic has found his tempo at the US Open, and he'll now face an exhilarating test against Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal.
The match concluded abruptly with Taylor Fritz double-faulting and his exit ensured the ongoing US drought in men's singles - a streak since Andy Roddick's 2003 US Open triumph, with no American male champion in a major since.
The four-time US Open champion, Djokovic, showcased his mastery against Fritz with his excellent return game, strategic control of long rallies, and pinpoint serving in clutch moments.
The experience of many years playing in high-pressure matches gave Djokovic an upper hand over the 27-year-old Fritz, whose serve improved over the last two sets.
“It was an incredibly close match. It was really anybody’s match. I thought I was really lucky to save some crucial break points in the second set. I think for most of the second and third sets he was the better player," Djokovic said.
“That last game was nerve-wracking. A tough one for Taylor to finish with a double fault, he didn’t deserve that," Djokovic added.
