Apple Arcade is giving sports fans plenty to look forward to over the next few weeks. The subscription gaming service has announced that Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition will arrive on August 6, bringing EA's iconic American football franchise to iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. Alongside it, Apple is also adding Retro Bowl College+, while NFL Retro Bowl '27 will follow on September 3 with a major gameplay update.
For Apple Arcade, Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition has been built from the ground up as a premium experience. Unlike many mobile games, it comes without ads or in app purchases, allowing players to access the full game with an Apple Arcade subscription.
Players can jump straight into Quick Play or spend time in Franchise mode, where they take charge as an NFL team's general manager. Franchise mode includes a weekly story engine that introduces new challenges throughout the season, while player ratings are updated based on real world NFL performances to make every campaign feel more authentic.
The game also supports wireless controllers across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV, making it easy to switch between devices while enjoying a console style football experience.
"From the pitch to the court to the gridiron, Apple Arcade delivers an unmatched lineup of sports games for every kind of fan," said Alex Rofman, Apple’s senior director of Apple Arcade. "I’ve been a longtime Madden NFL player and adding this legendary franchise to our catalog is a dream come true. Just in time for the new season, our Arcade community can now dive into an authentic NFL experience alongside other massive sports hits like NFL Retro Bowl, NBA 2K, and Football Manager, all in one place."
According to EA, the Apple Arcade version has been designed to deliver the same authentic gameplay the Madden series is known for while giving players the freedom to build their own franchise or compete using today's NFL stars.
"Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition is a chance to bring the most authentic NFL experience to a new audience of football fans, letting them play and compete as the league’s most elite players, or take control as GM and shape a franchise," said Evan Dexter, EA’s vice president of Franchise Strategy and Marketing. "Apple Arcade is the perfect home for Madden as a premium platform that matches the complete, no-compromise experience we’ve built. Whether you’re playing on your iPhone on the go or on Apple TV with friends and family, the future of football is now in your hands."
Apple is also expanding its football catalogue with Retro Bowl College+, which launches on August 6. The retro inspired title puts players in the role of a college football head coach, giving them the chance to lead one of 250 college teams and build a successful programme.
The football action continues on September 3 with the release of NFL Retro Bowl '27. The latest version introduces a brand new Gauntlet Mode, where players begin with limited resources and must survive a demanding 15 game winning streak. Along the way, they will have to choose between safer opponents or riskier matchups for better rewards. Experience points and player abilities carry over even after a defeat, encouraging players to keep improving their squad and climb the weekly leaderboards.

Beyond football, Apple has also rolled out fresh content for some of its existing sports games. NBA 2K26 Arcade Edition has received a new update that adds two time NBA All Star Tyrese Maxey as the latest Paragon player, while The Association mode now includes the 2016 to 2024 Era. Meanwhile, PGA TOUR Pro Golf players can now play on the newly added Bear's Best Atlanta course.
With Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition joining the service and more football titles arriving over the coming weeks, Apple Arcade is continuing to strengthen its sports games library ahead of the new NFL season.
