Apple has finally announced the winners of the annual Apple Design Awards and awarded 14 best-in-class apps and games out of 42 finalists on the basis of design, technical achievements and innovative contributions to the digital platform.
These awards were segmented into seven categories, each awarding one application and one game for their contributions to delight and fun, inclusivity, innovation, interaction, social impact, visuals and graphics, and a new spatial computing category.
Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, “It’s inspiring to see how developers are using our technology to create exceptional apps and games that enhance the lives of users. This year’s winners have demonstrated how apps can create powerful and moving experiences — and we’re excited to celebrate their hard work and ingenuity at WWDC this year.”
Here is the list of category-wise awards and the developers praised by Apple for its capabilities.
1. Delight and Fun
App Winner: Bears Gratitude
Developer: Isuru Wanasinghe (Australia)
It is a journaling application which encourages users to practise gratitude via an engaging interface.
Game Winner: New York Times Games
Developer: New York Times
New York Times Games has introduced new games like Connections with a unique design and simple user interface.
2. Inclusivity
App Winner: oko
Developer: AYES (Belgium)
The application uses audio feedback to help the visually impaired warn about the signal lights using the Apple tech such as VoiceOver and Dynamic Type.
Game Winner: Crayola Adventures
Developer: Red Games Co. (United States)
It is an adventure game with different characters with engaging gameplay.
3. Innovation
App Winner: Procreate Dreams
Developer: Procreate (Australia)
Procreate Dreams is a 2D animation application with a variety of features and controls on offer.
Game Winner: Lost in Play
Developer: Happy Juice Games (Israel)
Lost in Play takes players on a charming adventure through childhood imagination with hand-drawn graphics and thoughtfully crafted puzzles.
4. Interaction
App Winner: Crouton
Developer: Devin Davies (New Zealand)
The application makes the culinary experience simpler with its user interface for recipes, grocery lists, and step-by-step cooking instructions.
Game Winner: Rytmos
Developer: Floppy Club (Denmark)
The game combines simple drag gestures with musical elements making the puzzle-solving more engaging.
5. Social Impact
App Winner: Gentler Streak Fitness Tracker
Developer: Gentler Stories (Slovenia)
It is a fitness app that revolves around balanced fitness and mental well-being showing stats about health and also giving reminders.
Game Winner: The Wreck
Developer: The Pixel Hunt (France)
The Wreck is a visual novel that explores deep narratives and emotional choices, providing a powerful gameplay experience.
6. Visuals and Graphics
App Winner: Rooms
Developer: Things, Inc. (United States)
Rooms offer a platform for creative scenes, gaming, and social interactions, filled with delightful details and high-quality visuals.
Game Winner: Lies of P
Developer: NEOWIZ (South Korea)
Lies of P reimagines a classic tale with stunning graphics, detailed lighting, and customizable visual effects.
7. Spatial Computing
App Winner: djay pro - DJ App & AI Mixer
Developer: algoriddim GmbH (Germany)
It is a music-mixing application with HD sound and an interactive user interface.
Game Winner: Blackbox
Developer: Shapes and Stories (United States)
It provides various spatial puzzles that engage users by rewarding their curiosity and creative thinking.
