Elon Musk-run social media platform X has changed its policies to officially permit users to upload sexual and graphic content, with some riders, despite widespread outcry about the rise in porn content.Users may share consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual conduct, according to X's amended policy, "as long as it's properly labelled and not prominently displayed."
As long as content about sexual themes is generated and shared consentingly, users should be free to create, share, and consume it, according to the social media platform.According to the platform, sexual expression—whether it be verbal or visual—can be a valid form of artistic expression.
"We believe in the autonomy of adults to engage with and create content that reflects their own beliefs, desires, and experiences, including those related to sexuality," stated the newly released policy. Consensually produced NSFW (not safe for work) content can now be posted by users as long as it is clearly tagged as such.
The X platform stated, "AI-generated videos and images are also covered by the new rules."There have been rumours circulating recently that X is testing a feature that allows users to start or join communities dedicated to adult content.
The Indian government issued a warning to X and other platforms last year asking them to take down any child sexual abuse and pornographic content that was on them. Australia has also penalised X for not disclosing information regarding content that involves child abuse.
