JE Technology Desk: While the rumour mill regularly churns out details about the next iPhone 15 series, we generally do not get a ton of details about one of the best tablets to buy in the world: the iPad Pros. However, we now have a captivating detail that will embrace the screen of the upcoming Pro models in 2024. According to Omdia, a research firm, Apple manufacturers will likely begin industrial production of the upcoming 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro variants with OLED screens in the first quarter of next year.

According to MacRumors, the advantages include more brightness, better colour accuracy, deep contrast and less battery consumption compared to the IPS LCD counterparts. The tech giant already uses OLED technology in the iPhones and Apple Watch series.

The 'Pro' models will use an LTPO panel to tone down the refresh rate of the display when not in use. Apple is expected to use thinner hybrid OLED screens. As per Ross Young, a Supply Chain Analyst, the display has a steeper cost of manufacturing. Hence we can expect the models to witness a price hike.

According to the report, these models could be larger than the current models with a screen size of 11.1 and 13 inches (against 11 and 12.9 inches). Coming to the latest iteration of iPads, the 11-inch model has a Liquid Retina panel, and the 12.9-inch model has a Liquid Retina XDR panel. Both IPS panels have an SDR peak brightness of 600 nits. The XDR screen can max out at 1,600 nits during HDR viewing. They debuted in October last year with an octa-core M2 chip for performance and 12MP + 10MP cameras on the back. For connectivity, the models have Wi-Fi 6E (and cellular options), Bluetooth 5.3 and Apple Pencil support.
