Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 series at its highly-anticipated 'Wonderlust' event on September 12. While announcing the 15 Pro models, the tech giant showcased an option to record spatial videos that could be experienced on the Apple Vision Pro, the company's mixed-reality headset.
According to Apple, spatial video will add a fresh perspective to video recording with the ability to capture footage in "three dimensions" and provide an immersive experience to relive these moments using the Vision Pro headset.
"Users will be able to capture precious moments in three dimensions and relive those memories with incredible depth on Apple Vision Pro when it is available early next year in the US," Apple said in a press release.
At the time of the iPhone 15 Pro announcement, Greg "Joz" Joswiak, Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing at Apple, said the unique feature will use an ultra-wide and primary camera on the rear to create a 3D video which will be viewable on the company's first spatial computer.

"You can relive these memories magically on the Apple Vision Pro...Spatial video lets you feel like you are right back to that moment in time," Joz said at the Apple Event 2023. He added that these videos will be shareable with people who own a Vision Pro to let them experience this innovative viewing. Considering the limited availability of Apple's MR headset, it is unclear whether it will roll out to all regions or only the ones where the headset is available for purchase.
Details about whether these videos will be enjoyable on any third-party device, such as a projector or the company's big-screen monitors with a similar viewing experience, remain under wraps. Plus, whether these videos will be editable also remains a query for some other day.
MacRumors speculate that just like stereoscopic videos, the company may also provide an option for spatial photos. Also, a rough idea about the file format and the video size of these videos is unknown at the moment.
