Apple might finally be stepping into the foldable smartphone game. According to a new prediction by investment firm JPMorgan, the company is eyeing a September 2026 launch for its first-ever foldable iPhone, expected to be part of the iPhone 18 lineup.

A Book-Style Fold, but with Apple’s Signature Polish

Analyst Samik Chatterjee from JPMorgan says the iPhone Fold could adopt a book-style design, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. But Apple’s take might raise the bar—leaks hint at a crease-free inner display, a detail that could give it a design edge over rivals. The inner screen is expected to measure around 7.8 inches when unfolded, while a compact 5.5-inch outer display will handle quick glances and notifications.

The build is also tipped to reflect Apple’s premium design language, possibly featuring a titanium frame and support for the Apple Pencil—a first for any iPhone.

Under the Hood: Next-Gen Performance

The foldable iPhone is likely to be powered by Apple’s upcoming A20-series chip, built on an advanced 3nm architecture. Expect it to pack top-tier specs—5G, Wi-Fi 7, and up to 1TB storage—making it suitable for both productivity and high-end media use.

On the camera front, there’s no confirmed info yet, but it’s safe to assume Apple will go big here too. Rumours suggest a high-performance rear camera setup, potentially offering 8K video and the usual computational photography magic. Fast wired and MagSafe wireless charging are expected, though battery specs remain under wraps.

Premium Price Tag, Premium Audience

JPMorgan estimates the iPhone Fold could start at around $1,999 in the US. In India, this could mean a launch price close to ₹174,900, factoring in taxes and import duties. It’ll likely be aimed at early adopters and the premium segment—much like Apple’s current Pro Max models.

A New Chapter in the iPhone Story?

Apple hasn’t officially confirmed the iPhone Fold yet, but signs are piling up—including supply chain movement, patent filings, and analyst chatter. If these predictions hold, the foldable iPhone could be the biggest hardware shift since the original iPhone redefined smartphones in 2007.
