Apple has reportedly rejected the overtures by Meta Platforms to integrate the social networking company's AI chatbot into the iPhone months ago, Bloomberg News reported on Monday, citing top sources. The report stated that the businesses only had a few quick talks in March and are not currently in talks for an AI partnership involving Meta's Llama chatbot.
According to Bloomberg News, Apple was not actively planning to integrate Llama into iPhones and talks about a possible partnership did not proceed to a formal stage because it did not think Instagram owner Meta's privacy policies were strict enough.
According to the report, the initial discussions happened around the same time Apple began negotiating licences to use Alphabet's Gemini and OpenAI's ChatGPT in its products.
At its annual developer conference earlier in June, Apple revealed its much-anticipated AI strategy, integrating ChatGPT, an OpenAI chatbot, into its devices and introducing new "Apple Intelligence" technology throughout its suite of apps, which includes Siri, the virtual assistant.
Meanwhile, Apple has introduced the Apple Intelligence features with the iOS 18 at the WWDC 2024. The company has announced new AI-powered writing tools for Mail, Notes, Pages and other third-party applications. Not only that, Mail, Notifications, and Visual capabilities. The users will also get call summaries, recorded conversations and more.
Siri also gets AI-powered capabilities including the ChatGPT. It also gets Image Playground which can create animations, illustrations or sketch styles within Messages, Notes and other applications.
The Apple Intelligence will be available on iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia in the US and will roll out in the coming months. The eligible devices will include iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro MAX and iPad and Mac devices with M1 or later.
