JE Technology Desk: Apple was recently in the news for a host of hardware announcements at WWDC 2023. And in the latest move, the company is not planning to stop as Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, a reputed name for Apple-related leaks, shared that the company is already working on next-gen monitors, as per his sources.

According to Gurman, the company is diverting the workforce for the development of these monitors, including a "large screen panel with an iOS device chip" and operating system. The tech giant aims to fuse this tech to let the screen act as a smart home display that consumes less power.

However, the question remains when they will hit the markets. The Chief Correspondent speculates the launch may not materialise until next year. Speaking of the current lineup, the company offers two models: Pro Display XDR with 6K resolution and Apple Studio Display with 5K resolution. While the 6K screen presents better colours and picture quality, it misses out on a video camera and a performance chip from the A-series, Gurman adds.

The Studio Display 27-inch already utilises an A13 chip that helps support functionalities like Center Stage in camera and spatial audio for the music system. An iPhone-like chip could add the much-need smart touch to these monitors in the future like a smart home. The Standy feature on iOS 17 changes an iPhone into Smart Home Display in a horizontal position while charging.

Coming to the current offering, the Pro Display XDR measures 32 inches diagonally and uses an IPS LCD 10-bit screen. It offers up to 1600 nits of peak brightness and one Thunderbolt 3 and three Type-C ports for connectivity. Studio Display measures 27 inches in size and packs 600 nits of brightness. It can produce up to 1 billion colours. The monitor sports 12MP ultra-wide lens and a six-speaker system. Connectivity ports remain the same as Pro Display.
