Apple Foldable iPhone: It appears that foldable phones are the new buzz with the phone manufacturers. We had seen Samsung unveil its latest foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Flip 7, just a few days back, and reportedly another tri-fold phone is also in the making. But it is not only Samsung that is forgoing with the foldables; the buzz is spilling that even Apple may be joining the fun too!
Apple may finally be preparing to jump into the market of foldable smartphones. Rumours are true, if a new report from South Korea is anything to go by, and that company has begun manufacturing screens for its long-anticipated foldable iPhone. If all goes well, the phone should arrive on the market in 2026.
Samsung to Supply Foldable Displays for Apple
Although Apple and Samsung tend to be competitors in the smartphone arena, they might be working together in the background on this endeavour. Samsung Display is reportedly the sole supplier for Apple's foldable panels. That isn't a shocker — Samsung is the industry leader when it comes to OLED and foldable display technology, and Apple tends to buy top-of-the-line parts from the best suppliers.
Notably, Apple normally has more than one vendor in its supply chain, but for this foldable endeavour, only Samsung is the panel supplier. Perhaps this is attributed to Samsung's superior manufacturing ability and established history in the foldable display market.
A Book-Style Design, Comparable to Galaxy Z Fold
While Apple has not officially announced the device as of now, some rumours point to a 7.58-inch main screen with 2713 x 1920 resolution and an aspect ratio of 14.1:10. It should have a book-style fold, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, and potentially even enable the phone to be used like an iPad when in use.
The emphasis will allegedly be on durability. Apple is testing a liquid metal or metallic glass hinge mechanism, according to reports, to minimise the likelihood of hinge failure — a typical problem for first-generation foldables. The company also wants to remove screen creases, perhaps with special display technology that eschews the visible fold line observed in many foldable smartphones.
Camera and Expected Price
On the camera side, Apple will, presumably, stick to simplicity with a dual-camera configuration sporting a 48 MP primary sensor. On the pricing front, preliminary estimates have the foldable iPhone costing about $2,000 (about ₹171,600), well within the ultra-premium segment.

When Can You Expect It?
Apple has not publicly announced anything about the device thus far. But assuming these rumours are true, 2026 might be the time Apple finally comes out with its vision for a foldable iPhone — and it's evident that the company is moving to avoid the initial flaws that afflicted its rivals.
