iOS26 WWDC: With just days to go before WWDC 2025 kicks off, all eyes are on Apple and the sweeping changes it’s expected to make to iOS. From a potential renaming of the operating system to a fresh, visionOS-inspired redesign, the iPhone software is reportedly in for its most dramatic makeover in years.

iOS 19 could become iOS 26

There’s buzz that Apple might skip ahead and rebrand iOS 19 as iOS 26 to bring version numbers across its platforms—like iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS—into alignment. While nothing is confirmed, this rumour has been gaining traction as we inch closer to the keynote.

A new look, inspired by Vision Pro

One of the biggest talking points is the rumoured UI overhaul. Reports from reliable sources like Jon Prosser and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggest that iOS 16 will borrow heavily from the sleek look of visionOS, the software that powers Apple Vision Pro. Expect to see glass-like translucent menus, floating interface elements, and a new tab bar design—at least in Apple’s own apps.

Stage Manager may come to iPhones.

Stage Manager, Apple’s multitasking feature from iPadOS, could be making its way to select iPhones—specifically those with a USB-C port. According to tipster Majin Bu, the feature will activate when an iPhone is connected to an external display, letting users juggle multiple apps in a more desktop-like setup.

AI-powered battery smarts

Apple is also expected to unveil an AI-powered battery management system as part of its broader Apple Intelligence initiative. It would learn user patterns to optimise charging times and usage—and even show a dynamic charging estimate right on the Lock Screen.

Auto-translating messages

Another likely AI feature is the automatic translation of messages in real time. Instead of manually translating messages, users will be able to send and receive texts in different languages seamlessly in the Messages app.

Camera and gaming upgrades

The built-in Camera app is set for a design refresh too, echoing the same clean, fluid aesthetic as the rest of the UI revamp. Leaks suggest smoother transitions and swipe-based controls are on the way. Gamers might finally get a dedicated gaming mode as well—something Android phones have long offered. This new mode is expected to centralise achievements, Apple Arcade content, and leaderboards.

Smarter accessibility tools

Last but not least, Apple is doubling down on accessibility. iOS 26 may feature a new Accessibility Reader, better Braille support, and an AI-powered Personal Voice feature that can recreate a user’s voice with just a handful of phrases.

With so many changes reportedly coming, iOS 26 might just be Apple’s most transformative software update in a decade. We'll know for sure when WWDC 2025 begins on June 9.
