Perplexity.ai has put to rest rumours that Airtel customers in India are receiving a stripped-down version of its premium Perplexity Pro subscription.

The denial comes after a Reddit post went viral, garnering hundreds of upvotes, where a user alleged that the Airtel-bundled Perplexity Pro felt like a “Pro-Lite” version. The post claimed slower performance, missing charts, skipped citations, and answers that lacked depth — suggesting it was inferior to both the free and paid Pro offerings.

In an official statement to the Financial Express, Jesse Dwyer from Perplexity.ai firmly refuted the allegations, saying, “It is absolutely false that Airtel customers get a different version of Perplexity Pro than our Pro subscribers. India is very dear to us as a company, and we would hope to correct this misunderstanding for Indian readers.”

Dwyer also pointed out that misinformation about Perplexity is not uncommon online, often fuelled by people looking to grow their social media following.

Perplexity stressed that Airtel users enjoy the same features as paying Pro subscribers, including advanced AI model access, file uploads, image generation, and other premium tools.

Currently, Airtel offers Perplexity Pro as a complimentary perk with its 5G plans. Valued at ₹17,000 per year, the subscription is promoted as one of the major highlights of Airtel’s partnership with the AI firm.
