B20 Summit India 2023: PM Modi Talks About 'Ethical AI' During His Address, Echoes Need For 'Global Framework'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his B20 Summit India 2023 address in Delhi, urged for a global framework around AI. The B20 dialogue forum aims to bring business leaders, public policymakers and professionals together to deliberate on the B20 India Communique and usher economic growth. The B20 2023 three-day summit will conclude today.

PM Modi touched upon the new technology after discussing the challenges posed by cryptocurrencies and the integrated approach for a global framework to address the associated issues. On similar lines, he echoed the same thoughts about the evolving technology, according to a PIB press release.

Speaking on the buzz around artificial intelligence, he highlighted the topics of ethical considerations. "The world is witnessing a lot of excitement around AI. But amidst the excitement, there are some ethical considerations regarding skilling and re-skilling, algorithm bias and its impact on society. We all have to solve such issues together," he said.

PM Modi stressed the need for government and enterprise communities to work in close liaison for the ethical expansion of AI. "We have to sense the potential disruptions in different sectors. Disruption is visible and its scope and depth is becoming more profound. This problem has to be solved under the global framework," Modi added.

He highlighted that the challenge is not a one-of-a-kind as similar instances emerged when the aviation and financial sector expanded, and a framework was devised.

During his concluding remarks, he said that a connected world is not just about new technologies. "Let us remember that a connected world is not just about connection through technology. It is not only about shared social platforms but also about a shared purpose, shared planet, shared prosperity and a shared future", according to PIB, he said.

Besides AI, he touched upon topics such as the success of the Chandrayaan Mission, the experiences of the pandemic, and business insights. For context, the summit with the theme R.A.I.S.E (Responsible, Accelerated, Innovative, Sustainable and Equitable Businesses) has drawn more than 1,500 delegates from around 55 countries.
