Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched Voice over Wi-Fi as part of its service in new circles that will let users make voice and video calls using a Wi-Fi network even if they are unable to connect to the cellular network. It took a while but state-run telcos like BSNL are finally catching up with the rest as far as services like Wi-Fi calling go. The government-owned operator recently introduced BSNL 4G services for Mumbai and added eSIM functionality across the nation.
VoWiFi Service Launch
The announcement of a soft launch for VoWiFi was made by DoT Secretary Neeraj Mittal on the occasion of BSNL’s silver jubilee celebration on October 2, focusing on West and South Zone circles. The Wi-Fi calling option ensures end-users of compatible devices will automatically switch to a strong Wi-Fi signal if no mobile network is available.

Expansion of 4G and eSIM Services
Its 4G network went live recently in Mumbai and Delhi, adding sheen to its high-speed mobile offerings. The eSIM service, which is powered by Tata Communications’ Move platform, is currently available throughout India – including the Tamil Nadu circle.

Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives
Earlier in the month, BSNL signed a MoU with Department of Posts (DoP) for selling its SIM cards with bundled minutes through 1.65 lakh post offices across nation — expanding reach for subscribers even more. Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched BSNL's first fully indigenous 4G network in Jharsuguda, Odisha, underscoring the operator’s emphasis on self-reliant telecom infrastructure.
With VoWiFi, 4G and eSIM services at its portfolio; BSNL is continuing its journey towards network upgradation and customer satisfaction in remote areas of the country.
