ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence-based language model, was announced last year by OpenAI and since then has taken the internet by storm. In the latest updates about the OpenAI tool, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that he is a ChatGPT user and the "unique application" is what intrigues him.
Cook's remarks came in an interview with Good Morning America. He was responding to Robin Roberts, the host in the interview, on the question of the usage of the ChatGPT app on Apple devices.
On the query of whether he uses the ChatGPT app, Cook said, "Oh of course I use it. Yeah, I'm excited about it. I think there's some unique applications for it and you can bet that it's something that we're looking at closely," Business Today reported.
While Large Language Models (LLMs) like Bard and ChatGPT have "great promise", the companies need to be cautious while developing and deploying them, Cook added. The worries include "things like bias, things like misinformation, maybe worse in some cases", he added and stresses the need for regulation and guardrails for AI.
"If you look down the road, then it's so powerful that companies have to employ their own ethical decisions. Regulation will have a difficult time staying even with the progress on this because it's moving so quickly, and so, I think it's incumbent on companies as well to regulate themselves," Cook said.
He also said that similar features (AI) are already available in Apple products. But people do not equate it with AI, mainly because of the rise of LLM models, which are primarily seen as AI these days.
For the unversed, Apple recently restricted the use of ChatGPT at its workspace due to privacy and data breach concerns, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
As for more updates on the Cupertino-based tech giant, the company recently unveiled the highly-anticipated Apple Vision Pro at the WWDC 2023, which will be available for buying next year in the US for $ 3,499.
