ChatGPT Down Globally: ChatGPT faced a global outage, leaving users unable to access the AI tool through both the app and website. According to Downdetector, over 22,000 users reported issues, including disruptions to OpenAI's Sora and ChatGPT API services. Many users also took to social media to express their frustrations.

OpenAI Acknowledges the Issue

OpenAI confirmed the outage on its Status page, first reporting the problem at 20:28 PST on February 5, 2025. The company stated that they were investigating the cause. Later updates came at 20:36 and 20:44 PST, where OpenAI assured users that they were observing recovery signals for both API and Sora services, but were still working on a full resolution.

The downtime began at 9:14 AM IST, affecting not just regular users, but developers and businesses that rely on ChatGPT for their applications.

What Caused the Outage?

While OpenAI is still investigating, the exact cause of the outage remains unclear. The company has already implemented a fix and observed partial recovery, but they're continuing efforts to fully resolve the issue.
