DRAGGAN, an AI image processing tool, is making headlines for having impressive image editing capabilities which could replace the widely reputed Adobe Photoshop in a couple of scenarios. While mastering Adobe software is a tough task for many, this intuitive artificial intelligence innovation can act as a potential substitute.
However, at the moment, what we have is just one research paper and a few demo videos of DragGAN in action. The tool is a creation of researchers from top companies and institutions like Google, MIT, University of Pennsylvania and Max Planck Institute of Informatics.
DragGAN in action
In the video demo posted by The Verge, the examples include the alteration to facial expressions and the standing positions of a dog. A horse is changed into a running position against the initial static position. DragGAN can alter of heights of the mountains in a picture, as showcased in a demo.
In another interesting presentation, the position of a lion is edited to change facial expressions and body movements. "Our approach can hallucinate occluded content, like the teeth inside a lion's mouth, and can deform following the object's rigidity, like the bending of a horse leg," citing the research paper, Indian Express reported.
DragGAN AI: How it works?
In the demo, a user stirs the tool into action by simply locating a reference point in an image where they want the action to take place and change the desired settings. Other than the point technique, precise portions of the an are selected that witness alteration in the demo.
Despite these edits, the images do not show any significant signs of editing and continue to pose as legitimate. The research team's webpage is witnessing repeated crashes mainly due to the massive amounts of traffic circulating after it was shared on Twitter by AK (@_akhaliq), as per The Verge. One of the USPs of the AI tool is the capability to manipulate the angles of an image while altering pixels seamlessly.
DragGAN Availability
Though the tool is not available for general use, the videos present us a glimpse into its capabilities which are less complicated than the traditional image editing software. We will have to wait for a public version to check how well it performs against undisputed kings like Adobe Photoshop. Meanwhile, other popular AI-based image processing tools available for use include DALL-E and Midjourney.
