X, formerly Twitter, a popular microblogging platform owned by Elon Musk is now going to charge a small amount of money from all the users. With this, the reports also suggest that the platform will completely become a paid platform and will not be free to use in the coming months. This comes after, in an attempt to address the issue of bots on the platform, the owner of X broached the possibility that the social network may no longer be a free site during a live-streamed conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Why Will Elon Musk Make X A Paid Platform?

Musk stated late on Monday, "It's the only way I can think of to combat vast armies of bots." The millionaire continued, "Because a bot costs a fraction of a penny, say a tenth, but even if it needs to pay a few dollars or something, the effective cost of bots is significant.

The concept of charging all users of X is not an original one; Musk initially discussed it last year. The company presently charges its X Premium members $8 per month for the privilege of editing posts, seeing fewer adverts, writing lengthier messages, and receiving higher rankings in searches and conversations.

However, there is still a lot of uncertainty in the move as the users have already backlashed the platform for introducing the Twitter Blue subscription. And with this move, it might be possible that users may migrate to other platforms as the platform will not be free. The amount which will be charged is unknown and the timeframe of the new paid version is also behind the curtains at the time of writing the article.

Musk revealed during the conversation that X now has 550 million monthly users, producing 100–200 million posts daily. The number of current paying subscribers was not made public by Musk. Twitter announced 229 million mDAUs (monetizable daily active users) in its most recent quarterly financial report in Q1 2022.
