X (formerly called Twitter) was recently in the news for an announcement from Elon Musk that the platform will soon get audio and video calling support. And in the latest series, a preview of the settings of the feature leaked online. According to X News Daily, a reliable name for X-related news, the preview was leaked by an X account - @swak_12.

The feature will likely be available within the 'Messages settings' and have a toggle to 'Enable audio and video calling'. These options will allow users to receive calls from contacts (people in your address book), people you follow and verified users. Plus, they can manage these preferences and even restrict the functionality completely via a toggle.

"Take messaging to the next level with audio and video calls. Turn the feature on and then select who you're comfortable using it with," the description of the feature in the screengrab reads. It is unclear whether it will be exclusive to X Premium users or available for all users.

The leakster also added that to allow calls from contacts, users will have to allow permission to their device's contacts. Coming to official updates, Musk said that the feature will work on iOS, Android, Mac and PC and not require a phone number to function. Replying to a user about whether these calls will be encrypted, the Tesla CEO said, "Not at first, but we will add the ability to turn encryption on or off dynamically."
