Soon after the retirement of Larry Bird from the microblogging platform, it seems Elon Musk also aims to diversify the purpose of tuning into the X app. In his latest X post, the Tesla CEO announced that users would be able to make video and audio calls on X.

The update comes on expected lines as Musk has already shared plans to transform the microblogging app into a 'super app' that serves multiple needs of the users besides social media. The billionaire added that the feature will not require a phone number to make calls. Here are the details Musk announced about the feature to give you detailed insights.

X Video, Audio Calls: Availability

X owner shared that the feature will be available on iOS, Android, Mac and PC. This functionality would be independent and not require a phone number to function. Further, Musk added that: "X is the effective global address book. That set of factors is unique."

Musk's post has gained over four million views, 66,000+ likes and over 12,000 reposts. Users in the comment box have shared their excitement about the upcoming feature. One user said: "I will call you @elonmusk."

While there were reports of the feature arriving on the platform soon, the update has fumed these speculations. X Designer Andrea Conway, in her post in July, gave users a sneak peek into the feature. The new call icon will likely sit next to the info button at the top right within a DM conversation.

This option would allow users to make either video or audio calls on the app. In the video calling interface, four buttons: sound, mic, video and close (red cross) are visible at the bottom to toggle controls during calls.

However, a user must note that the feature is not live yet. Speaking of other enhancements for videos on the platform, the company recently highlighted in an X post the latest enhancements in the X app for better viewing. You can read more on this here.
