Elon Musk's X Corp banned 2,29,925 accounts in India between April 26 and May 25, the majority of which promoted child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. The microblogging platform, which is undergoing churn under Musk, also removed 967 accounts for promoting terrorism in the country.
During the reporting period, X banned 230,892 accounts in total. According to the microblogging platform's monthly report submitted in accordance with the new IT Rules, 2021, it received 17,580 complaints from Indian users during the same period of time via its grievance redressal procedures.
Furthermore, 76 grievances involving the appeal of account suspensions were handled by the company.
"After examining the details of the case, we reversed 0 of these account suspensions. The business stated that the remaining reported accounts are still suspended.
"We received 31 requests related to general questions about accounts during this reporting period," it stated. India accounted for the majority of complaints (6,881), with hateful conduct (3,763), sensitive adult content (3,205), and abuse/harassment (2,815) coming in second and third, respectively. In the nation, X banned 1,84,241 accounts between March 26 and April 25. Additionally, 1,303 accounts were removed by the microblogging platform for encouraging terrorism on the network.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s microblogging platform has also tweaked its policy and now allows users to post consensual adult content. However, the decision has seen mixed reactions on the platform.
Indonesia previously stated that it is ready to shut down the platform, according to the minister of communications. Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority country, has strict laws that prohibit the distribution of offensive content online. Minister Budi Arie Setiadi told Reuters that he had written X a warning letter and if not followed, the country would ban X.
