Forza Announcement at Tokyo Game Show 2025

Microsoft unveiled Forza Horizon 6 at the Tokyo Game Show 2025, teasing fans with a first look at what’s coming next for the racing franchise. Art director Don Arceta confirmed on Xbox Wire that more details will be revealed in early 2026.

Platforms and Launch Plans

The teaser confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will initially launch on Xbox Series X and PC, with a PlayStation 5 version following later. This staggered release aligns with Microsoft’s ongoing strategy to broaden the game’s reach while maintaining platform-specific advantages at launch.

Japan Map and Cultural Highlights

The new instalment brings players to Japan, featuring Tokyo city, its elevated highways, and scenic rural landscapes. Mount Fuji will serve as a central landmark, while the map will also highlight drifting culture, Kei cars, vans, motorsport, and deep vehicle customisation inspired by Japanese automotive traditions. Seasonal changes, a beloved feature in past games, will return, adding variety to the driving experience.

Development and Series History

Forza Horizon 6 marks the longest gap between entries in the series. Since Forza Horizon 5 launched in Mexico in 2021, Playground Games has also been busy with the upcoming Fable reboot. Japan has been a top fan-requested location since the franchise began in 2012, and this release fulfils that long-standing demand.

Release Timeline

The game is set for a 2026 release, five years after the previous Horizon title. Microsoft confirmed that Xbox and PC players will get early access, with PlayStation 5 owners gaining access afterward. Earlier in 2025, Phil Spencer hinted at a new Horizon project, now confirmed as Forza Horizon 6.

Xbox's Move in Japan

Microsoft is using the Japan environment to extend its popularity in the market, engaging with native culture and gamers. The company also unveiled additional Japanese-themed material at Tokyo Game Show, such as fresh Call of Duty maps and future games with Japan-themed designs.
