Free Fire India, which was set to launch in India today after Garena opened preregistrations on Google Play Store, has announced that the launch has been postponed by a 'few more weeks'. In a statement on September 4, the company confirmed the delay.

For the unversed, the game was suspended in the country for over a year for reasons including national security concerns. As per the firm, the delay in the release of Free Fire India was to deliver the "best possible experience" to fans right from the start.

"In addition to refining the gameplay, we are taking some time to fully complete our localisation of the Free Fire India experience," Garena said, according to Moneycontrol. The gamer maker first announced the relaunch on August 31 and shared that it has appointed former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the brand ambassador.

As per the report, the game will have 'India-exclusive' features. For starters, MS Dhoni will feature as an in-game player called 'Thala', according to Vaibhav Das Mundhra, Senior Manager and Game Producer at Garena. For local cloud storage, the company has partnered with cloud service provider Yotta for data storage of the battle royale title. The hosting firm will manage the data of users on its local servers, Garena said.

Garena Free Fire India On Play Store

The Google Play Store listing of 'Free Fire India' continues to have the 'Pre-register' button. Interested users can register from here. This ensures that when the title is released, the package is installed on your smartphone.

Free Fire India will compete with Karfton's Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), which recently completed its trial period in the country. Speaking of more updates on Garena, the company's premium offering - 'Free Fire Max' continues to be available for users on the Play Store in India.
