After a long wait, Perplexity AI has now come out with its very own Chrome extension, which is optimised for AI features. This extension assists you with searching, providing summaries, and answering questions on any specific tab you’re currently browsing. This AI-powered program is capable of performing many tasks at the same time without wasting time toggling between tabs.
All of these features are exactly what users have been looking for and are better than Gemini. Perplexity is now available for the public and functions just as an AI assistant is meant to. While Gemini has been in the news a lot recently, it’s Perplexity that has been providing the practicality and functionality that has been needed.
Perplexity Pro
One recent deal offered by Bouygues Telecom, a French Wi-Fi provider, gave subscribers a complimentary one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro. This event was particularly relevant for the author, who was evaluating the usefulness of the service based on some user stories. At this point, though, the author already possessed Gemini Advanced perks due to the author’s Pixel 9 Pro, which would block the need to pay extra for another AI subscription. However, the authors cashed in the offer because it included free terms. After that, Perplexity has proved its focus capability for search and answer sourcing, thereby becoming aggressively competitive in the author’s AI toolset. The service’s Chrome extension, which I encountered later, has been a distinguishing factor because of the integration capabilities that I had earlier hoped would come from Gemini.
Here is the list of features that Perplexity Extension provides:
The simplest command: Summarise
The Perplexity extension's merit is witnessed through the ability to ease the user’s workload. This is particularly true with “The Summarise” feature, which has proven to be useful for journalists, researchers, etc. who need to stay updated very quickly. Perplexity helps users understand the major points of a given story with ease by summarising major takeaways from multiple articles, which saves time and productivity. This is highly useful, especially in news journalism where processing and dissemination of information at high speed is crucial.
With the aid of multiple articles, companies and businesses can get an untold number of summaries that give them a summary of all the articles processed through Perplexity. This proprietary software greatly helps analyse all basic points alongside the overwhelming text, which results within the user’s time frame.
Integrating Perplexity tools with other journalism aids greatly saves time for users. That results in the gaining of additional time, energising motivation for storytelling and rigorous production of powerful narratives.
Searching anything and everything, with focus
Puzzling addition enables Perplexity to act as a search box where users can look up information on a given page or website. For someone doing research, such as planning a trip or looking for design ideas, this has proven to be a great time-saving feature. It allows users to complete daily tasks faster. The web domain restriction enables users to fine-tune their searches, as illustrated by the author’s example of looking for concerts in Switzerland by Italian artists on Songkick.com, which would work better using this approach than the filters on the site.
Why hasn't Google integrated Gemini into Chrome yet?
The writer notes how AI can oblige with better searching from within the browser, especially using Perplexity as an example. It illustrates how Gemini could be employed indirectly without the need to first be incorporated into Chrome. Leveraging a secondary model benefits users because they can easily navigate or personalise their research. It is stated that AI functions best when it is blended with the different activities that people do- in this case, browsing and research, instead of simply being a tool readily available for use while searching documents. With the use of advanced AI systems, Gemini could refine browsers through focused searches, cross-checking, comparisons, collaborations with reliable websites, and many more. This would change the way people carry out research, making it more precise and efficient with ease through the advanced technologies instead of having to look for other tools for searching. The author seems to suggest hope with outlines of changes Gemini stated during its merger with Google, like those showcased during I/O developments.
