Google begins rolling out the pinned tabs feature on Chrome for Android, bringing a highly sought desktop feature to smartphones. Announced late last year in December 2025, the feature is now active with the latest Chrome update and users can pin important tabs to the top of their browser. It’s part of Google’s product-wide effort to make Chrome on Android feel more like its desktop version, especially as Android picks up productivity-focused capabilities.
Now, in the latest version of Chrome for Android, which is version 144.0.7559.132 that is currently being rolled out, users can also start pinning tabs, just like how you would on Windows, macOS and Linux. If pinned, a tab hangs out in the first position of the tab switcher and will be there after shutdown and restart of the app.
When announcing the feature earlier, Google said that pinned pages stay saved at the front of your browser, letting you pick up right where you left off.”

How to Pin Tabs on Chrome for Android
After updating Chrome, users can pin tabs by following these steps:
1. Open Chrome on your Android device
2. Press and hold the tab you want to keep
3. Tap the Pin tab option from the menu
The tab will now be pinned to the top. To get rid of it, follow the same steps and unpin or close the tab.

Pinned tabs are great for things you visit a lot, such as email, dashboards, research docs or your bank. Keeping these tabs pinned would ensure that users won't be able to close them by mistake and can pick up tasks immediately.
This update also demonstrates Google’s attempts to get mobile and desktop browsing more aligned. The company is also reportedly working to improve Chrome’s compatibility with Android’s forthcoming Desktop Mode, which would let the OS switch from a mobile interface to a more desktop-like one when you connect your phone to an external display.
