Google is incorporating AI technology directly into Chrome to improve efficiency and reliability while shopping online. The technology company announced AI-generated store summaries on Monday, which will help users evaluate e-commerce products at a glance. The feature compiles the trusted reviews and user insights that allow users to examine a product’s value, price, delivery, and post-purchase service quickly.
Currently, this feature is only available in the Chrome for desktop app and is restricted to users living in the US and English speakers only. But we can expect it to expand soon to other countries and languages as well.
What Are AI-Powered Store Summaries?
Google's new feature on Chrome draws data from independent review websites such as TrustPilot, ScamAdvisor, and Google Shopping. Based on this data, Chrome’s AI creates product or store summaries tailored to highlight the most frequently mentioned aspects in reviews.
The summaries cover:
Product quality—What users are saying regarding the product's longevity and performance.
Customer service—The responsive and helpful nature of the seller.
Shipping and returns—Delivery time, the quality of packaging, and the ease of returning the item.

Pricing trends—Whether the item or service is regarded as a fair price.
Additionally, users are given a benchmark rating to the product or seller which helps them to make an informed purchasing decision.
Each summary also displays an overall rating of the product or seller, giving users a quick benchmark before making a purchase decision.
How to Access Store Summaries
The function can be accessed easily starting from the product pages. For Chrome users, there used to be a toggle icon next to the address bar which only provided access to settings like cookies, site data, and security settings. Now, there is a toggle icon next to the address bar which Chrome users will notice.
Now users will be provided with a new feature, “Store reviews.” For eligible users clicking the “Store reviews” button will open a small window with the rating, the key points from the reviews, and the summary generated by the AI. The users also have the option to provide feedback whether the summary provided was accurate and helpful.
Why It Matters for Online Shoppers
As was previously mentioned, eCommerce websites can sometimes be flooded with thousands, sometimes hundreds, of reviews. Having AI function which saves time and boosts users confidence in their decisions is provided by Google Chrome.
AI generated summaries provide a less biased comparison to reviews generated by a single site that can sometimes be manipulated by fake or biased reviews, because of the multiple independent platforms the reviews come from.
What Else Is New in Chrome?
Along with the addition of Google’s AI shopping feature, the company also provided updates to their Chrome users on iOS with an emphasis on address and account features.
In the past, switching from personal to organizational accounts on a single device meant logging out and then logging back in, which was inconvenient for users managing both accounts. That is in the past, now, Chrome will enable a smoother sign in process as users will be able to keep separate browser account data for different accounts, thus reducing the need for constant manual switching.

The browser will, however, remind users that they are browsing under an organization-managed account, which helps users maintain clarity and assurance when it comes to data usage. Google has once again assured users that enterprises will continue to manage how organizational data will be governed in relation to storage and usage.
Future Expansion
Though the AI shopping tool is currently available in the U.S. on desktop, Google is likely to roll it out on mobile apps and to international markets in the coming months. Given the rapid increase in online shopping, AI-generated summaries for e-commerce sites such as Amazon, Walmart, and even smaller niche e-commerce stores could be a huge advantage.
This will also increase the competitive advantage for Chrome as it now has more revenue opportunities in comparison to Microsoft which has plugged Copilot AI directly into its browser Edge.
Final Thoughts
Google's AI shopping summaries herald the advent of smarter shopping online. By summarizing multiple trusted reviews, these shopping summaries will be able to help users save a significant amount of time while shopping and help reduce buyer's remorse.
