Google is pushing Gemini AI deeper into Android with the launch of Play Games Sidekick, a new tool designed to guide gamers without leaving their session. The Sidekick works as an overlay on Play Store titles, letting players ask questions, request strategies, or get walkthroughs directly in-game.

Using Gemini Live’s screen-sharing abilities, the Sidekick understands game context and offers tailored tips. For instance, EA Sports FC Mobile players can ask for more aggressive tactics or suggestions for stronger team layouts, all without pausing the action.

Limited Rollout With More Games Coming Soon

At launch, only a select number of games will support the Sidekick, but Google says the rollout will expand steadily. Beyond tips and strategies, the feature can also surface useful game-related information directly on the overlay, helping players stay fully informed.

Unified Profiles and AI Avatars

Alongside Sidekick, Google is also revamping Play Games profiles. Instead of fragmented stats across platforms and devices, gamers will now have a single hub to track achievements, milestones, and progress.

To add a personal touch, users can create AI-powered avatars that showcase their style while gaming. This marks a step toward making Play Games not just functional but also customisable.

Global Play Games League Kicks Off October 10

Google is also bringing in a competitive edge with the launch of the Play Games League. The first season begins on October 10 with Subway Surfers and runs until October 23. The league will act as a global leaderboard, with top performers earning Play Points rewards. Future seasons are expected to extend to other popular titles.
