Google Meet, the popular video calling platform allows users to transfer their calls from one device to another without interfering with the flow. This means the users can easily switch devices while they are on a Google Meet call without any interruptions. The company announced the new feature taking to the Google Workspace blog.
Google appears to aim to facilitate a smooth transition from one device to another during conversations in certain scenarios, such as power outages or internet issues since users who initiate calls on their smartphones or laptops will now be able to switch devices during calls with a single tap.
Google indicated that it intends to increase customers' flexibility while on essential professional calls. Interestingly, Zoom, another video conferencing software, adopted a similar functionality last year to solve the concerns reported by its users.
How Does It Work?
The new feature enables users to switch from mobile video calls to PCs and vice versa. Customers only have to launch Google Meet on their backup devices. Following that, users will see the Switch Here option. After the user makes that selection, the platform will be able to transfer to the second device and then terminate the call on the first device once the transfer is complete.
Google guarantees that the process will be absolutely seamless, with no interruptions. The feature works on all of Google Meet's platforms, including PC, iOS, and Android. Google Meet also allows you to remain on call on both devices at the same time by selecting "Other joining options" and "Join here too."
