Google Photos might be on the verge of rolling out a much-needed refresh—one that makes photo and video creation tools far easier to access. A recent APK teardown of version 7.36 by the team at Android Authority revealed that Google is working on a brand-new “Create” tab that could change how users interact with the app’s editing features.

Right now, if you want to create a collage, animation, or cinematic photo, the process can feel a bit clunky. You typically tap the “+” icon and scroll through a list of options that aren’t exactly front and centre. While it works, it’s not the most intuitive setup—especially if you're frequently using multiple tools. That’s where this new Create tab comes in.

With the upcoming tab, Google plans to consolidate all creative features in one place. Instead of hunting through menus, you’ll have a centralised hub where you can quickly launch tools like Collage, Cinematic photo, and Highlight video. It’s a simple change, but one that could significantly improve the user experience by cutting down on taps and navigation.

But that’s not all. The Create tab also hints at some upcoming features we haven’t seen live yet. Among them are “Photo to Video” and “Remix”, two AI-powered tools that appear to animate still images or generate dynamic videos from your photos. These aren’t live features yet, but the groundwork seems to be laid—likely part of Google’s larger push into generative AI tools across its product line.

There’s also a business angle here. By making these AI-driven features more prominent, Google may be trying to draw users toward its premium AI subscription tier. While many of Photos’ editing tools are free, some of the more advanced or experimental features come with usage limits or are locked behind a paywall. Placing them all in a visible, easy-to-access tab could drive interest—and potentially convert more free users into paying ones.

Of course, it’s important to note that this tab isn’t official just yet. Since it was discovered through an APK teardown, it’s still under development and may be tweaked—or scrapped—before it ever reaches the stable version of the app. There’s also no word yet on when it might roll out to users, but given the level of detail seen in the teardown, it could be on the horizon.

For now, it looks like Google is taking meaningful steps to simplify content creation within Google Photos. And if the new Create tab delivers on what it promises, editing memories might soon be faster, smarter, and a whole lot easier.
