JE Technology Desk: After launching Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold smartphones at I/O 2023, Google will likely unveil the Pixel 8 series in the third quarter of this year. While we are months away from a possible debut, reports have already given us a detailed look at the processor and cameras of the upcoming smartphones. In the latest leaks, Andoird Authority leaked the complete display specifications of the Pixel 8 series.

Citing a source from Google, the news outlet revealed the screen configurations of the upcoming smartphones. Compared to the 6.3-inch on the Pixel 7, the Pixel 8 will likely have a smaller 6.17-inch screen. The bigger sibling, Pixel 8 Pro, could have the same 6.7-inch display size as its predecessor. However, unlike the curved display on the Pixel 7 Pro, the panel may be flat this time.

Display technology and resolution

While both displays will carry an OLED panel, the Pixel 8 Pro may have a slightly lower resolution screen and less pixel-per-inch (PPI) density. The screen resolution and PPI on the Pixel 8 could remain unchanged.

HDR Peak brightness

Another major update could be in the peak brightness. The Pixel 8 Pro may have up to 1,600 nits in high dynamic range (HDR). While the Pixel 8 could go up to 1,400 nits. This could be an upgrade over the existing 1,000 nits brightness of the Pixel 7 series.

Refresh rate

Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro may come with up to 120Hz refresh rate. It would be an upgrade over the 90Hz screen refresh on the Pixel 7.

As for other leaks, the Pixel 8 Pro is tipped to have an IR thermometer next to the camera module on the back. Under the hood, the smartphones could have a Tensor G3 CPU. For photography, the Pixel 8 Pro could have a 50MP primary, 64MP ultrawide and 48MP telephoto lens. The vanilla model could have a dual camera setup (50MP + 12MP) on the back.

Google Pixel 8, 8 Pro Launch Date

Android Authority speculates that the phones could launch in September or October this year.
