Google is poised to unleash yet another major AI expansion within its Android ecosystem with Nano Banana, a feature codenamed as early builds of its Google app have hinted. Nano Banana could soon transform Lens and Circle to Search into powerful visual AI editors that help blur the lines between search, creativity, and content generation.
What is Nano Banana?
According to findings by Android Authority in version 16.40.18.sa.arm64 of the Google app, Google has been quietly testing Nano Banana with internal UI elements that hint at its upcoming launch. While it isn’t live for users yet, internal previews show a “Nano Banana Create” mode added to the Lens interface, sitting alongside the existing Search and Translate options.
When activated, Nano Banana greets users with an animated welcome screen encouraging them to “capture, create, and share.” The tool appears to let users upload any image and describe edits in natural language — for example:
- Removing unwanted objects
- Adjusting brightness and lighting
- Enhancing details
- Reimagining visuals in artistic styles
This essentially turns Lens into a built-in AI image editor, not unlike Google’s integration of Search Generative Experience (SGE) in 2023.

Interestingly, Nano Banana may not just stop at editing. Early references suggest it could also connect with Search AI Mode, paving the way for a unified Google experience where users can search, edit, and generate visuals within the same app.
Imagine circling an object with Circle to Search, instantly identifying it, then jumping into Nano Banana to enhance or modify the image — all without leaving Google’s ecosystem. If launched, this could significantly reduce reliance on third-party AI image editing apps.
Gemini 2.5 Flash Brings More Options
Alongside Nano Banana’s quiet testing, Google has also rolled out Gemini 2.5 Flash, its lightweight AI model optimized for fast generation. The update introduces new aspect ratio controls — Landscape, Portrait, Square, and Flexible — giving users more freedom to create AI-generated visuals tailored for different use cases, whether cinematic wide shots or vertical Instagram reels.
The pairing of Nano Banana with Gemini 2.5 Flash could mark a major leap for Google’s AI ambitions. Not only would users have access to smarter, more creative visual tools, but they could also generate content in formats suited for modern social platforms.
Why Nano Banana Matters
Over the past year, Google has steadily added AI-driven features into Android, from Circle to Search to Gemini integration inside apps. Nano Banana represents the next logical step: giving users direct creative control over images without needing to install extra software.
If the feature rolls out widely, it could:
- Strengthen Android’s competitive edge against Apple’s upcoming AI-powered iOS features
- Deepen Google’s AI-first strategy across its products
- Offer consumers a frictionless blend of search, editing, and generative AI

Final Thoughts
While still experimental, Nano Banana is shaping up to be one of Google’s most intriguing AI tools yet. By merging Lens, Circle to Search, and Gemini’s generative power, Google could redefine how users interact with images on their devices.
Gemini 2.5 Flash's creative upgrades may hint at Google's plans to bring AI-powered Android experience in 2026. A public test may soon follow!
