Days after announcing the AI Overviews feature widely at its annual I/O conference, Google, an Alphabet-owned company, announced on Tuesday that it will begin testing search and shopping ads in its AI-generated answers in the US.

According to the company's blog post, sponsored ads will show up in AI Overview's "sponsored" section based on the information and relevancy of the query. Google has been attempting to expand its hegemony in the field of generative AI technology beyond traditional search advertising.

For those who are unaware, the company has announced the feature as a utility feature that allows users to receive accurate summaries and quick information about their queries, essentially eliminating the need to read long-format content. The feature is currently being rolled out to users in the United States and may become available to users worldwide in the coming months. Google has not confirmed the feature's availability for Indian users as of this writing.
