The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team has issued a high-severity security alert for Android users, warning that multiple vulnerabilities in the Google Android operating system could be exploited by attackers to gain elevated privileges or execute malicious code remotely.

Who Is at Risk?

Most of the vulnerabilities pertain to Android 13, Android 14, Android 15, and Android 16; thus, nearly every modern Android device may be in danger. CERT-In cautions that these flaws can allow hackers to gain access to sensitive data, disrupt system stability, or even cause complete device crashes.

The vulnerabilities are, according to the advisory, brought about by multiple sources: Android's core system, and components supplied by Qualcomm, MediaTek, NVIDIA, and UNISOC -- key chip providers for Android smartphones.

What makes this flaw dangerous?

The issue is cause for particular concern because it doesn't target any particular brand or model. Anyone using an Android phone running one of the affected versions could be at risk. The potential impact includes data theft, unauthorised access, and system corruption.

How to Stay Safe

CERT-In strongly recommends users install the latest Android security patch released by Google. The patch can be checked manually by going to Settings > About Phone > System Update, or may be enabled automatically, along with other updates, to protect against this and other vulnerabilities.

The best protection against such attacks, however, is keeping your device updated. Neglecting these updates will surely expose your smartphone to even the most dangerous kinds of hackers who can gain full control.

With the threats of cybersecurity becoming increasingly sophisticated, this is a warning from CERT-In that timely updates are no longer optional but have become essential.
