GTA 6: If there is any game that has the biggest and the loudest hype right now, it's GTA 6. Fans and the gaming community are watching the developers every move very closely in order to find any clue that Rockstar drops about the game.
By far all we have are two trailers and a few pre-release screenshots that give us a glimpse of what the game might have to offer. It looks good, no doubt about that, but the announcement that the game will be delayed was a bit of a bummer for gamers across the globe who wanted to get their hands on the title. But rumours are whispering something really interesting!
A fresh job posting from Rockstar Games has fans buzzing with a new theory: a mobile companion app could be in the works for Grand Theft Auto 6. While nothing has been confirmed, the listing points toward possible plans to bring the GTA experience to players’ phones and tablets alongside the main release.
The Clue That Started It All
The speculation began after eagle-eyed fans spotted a job listing on Rockstar North’s careers page. The studio is looking for mobile app developers with expertise in iOS or Android. While the listing doesn’t name GTA 6 directly, the fact that it's coming from Rockstar North—the heart of GTA 6’s development—has people connecting the dots.
Given the timing and context, many believe this role could be tied to the most anticipated game of the decade.
Rockstar Has Done This Before
This wouldn’t be uncharted territory for Rockstar. Both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 came with their own companion apps that allowed players to check maps, view stats, and manage inventory. That said, while the features were useful, some players felt they lacked deeper functionality and missed out on integrating more directly with the core gameplay.
With GTA 6 promising a more immersive world than ever, fans are hoping Rockstar goes further this time around.
What Could the Companion App Offer?
Naturally, theories are already circulating—especially on Reddit. One popular idea is that the app could act as an extension of the in-game smartphone seen in GTA 6 trailers. Imagine receiving NPC texts or calls on your real device, keeping you connected to the game even when you're away from your console.
Another fan theory suggests the app could feature the game’s fictional social media platform, letting players post and interact with in-game content through their phones—essentially blending real-world usage with virtual immersion.
Will Rockstar Actually Do It?
While the potential sounds exciting, it’s worth remembering that companion apps haven’t always stayed in fashion. Companies like Blizzard have stepped away from similar projects—recently discontinuing its World of Warcraft companion app. Still, Nintendo’s integration of Zelda Notes into its Switch app shows there’s still a market when done right.
Rockstar’s possible return to the mobile companion space suggests they’re looking to enrich the GTA 6 experience beyond just the console or PC.
No Official Announcement—Yet
Rockstar has so far said nothing. The hiring posting provides clues but no guarantees. And though fans are hungrily listening for every titbit they can find, there has been no announcement on the companion app. Currently, the thought remains just that—an interesting possibility supported by precedent and a single timely job posting.
With GTA 6 launching on the horizon, it is no wonder fans are keeping Rockstar under their radar. Whether or not a companion app gets an outing, even the rumours have built another thrilling strand into the game's already huge hype.
