Happy Birthday Mac: Apple released the first Mac on January 24, 1984. It has been over 40 years since the first personal computer was announced. The lineup continues to remain a preferred choice for buyers across the globe. As the world remembers the days of Steve Jobs when he showcased the first Mac in a presentation in California, here are some key moments from the product's history.

Before 2000

For the unaware, the first Mac offered a Motorola 68000 microprocessor paired with 128KB RAM and a drive to insert a floppy. It debuted with System 1.0 and Finder in the software, Forbes noted. Originally priced at $2,495, the sum equals about $7,500 (roughly Rs 6,23,000) if weighed in today's scenario, according to Euronews.

Colours on the screen of the Mac arrived in 1987 with Macintosh II (memory card support also debuted). With the keyboard and mouse combo, the Macintosh opened room for a range of possibilities across a range of industries. According to The Verge, it helped elevate the desktop publishing revolution.

The 1989 upgraded model (Macintosh SE/30) offered up to 32GB RAM expansion. It also coincided with the first portable Mac in 1989, which could run on a battery. This company went on to introduce the Macintosh LC (1990) Power Macintosh 9500 (1995), and iMac G3 (1998), which helped aid the the Mac lineup and the market sphere.

After 2000s

Things started taking a transformative turn in design in 2001 with the 15-inch Powerbook G4 laptop that offered an Aluminum finish. Moreover, the company introduced the iMac G4 (2002) AIO (all-in-one) to serve household users with the upgraded product till August 2004. Apart from laptops and computers, Mac Mini arrived in 2005.

According to Euronews, the portable powerhouse was followed by the Macbook Pro in 2006, another revolutionary product in the Mac lineup of devices by Apple. The company went on to strive for perfection in the years to come. The year was 2008 when the portable and lightweight MacBook Air debuted at an iconic showcase at the Apple MacWorld Conference by Steve Jobs.

About five years later (in 2013), the company introduced the Mac Pro at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. On a related note, while users might not value updates these days, they must note that before OSX Mavericks launch, updating to the latest version of Mac required users to pay for the update. The company renamed OSX to MacOS in 2016, Forbes noted.

2017 marked the arrival of the iMac Pro and other machines that are the latest products in the company's lineup that continue to break boundaries of performance and processing capabilities. Moreover, the company refreshed the iMac and MacBook laptops last year.
