Instagram Explore Feed, which lets a user explore videos, and images of different categories on the platform, has always been an interesting topic for content creators. In a recent blog post, the company explained how the platform ranks individual photos and videos on the Explore page.

For those who are unaware, the Explore feed provides a variety of items covering various categories such as fashion, sports, movies, memes, and more. Users do not need to follow a particular account to receive these postings and can browse a range of items from the feed. However, it is quite uncertain what content will be placed on the feed, and sometimes it consists of some out-of-context content as well. This is the reason why the company explained how the actual algorithm works.

According to Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, the Explore feed does not rely on any single factor and is determined by a variety of factors such as activity, information about the post, history of interaction, and more.

In terms of the Explore feed, the site tracks actions such as likes, saves, and shares. Furthermore, the organisation considers which posts pique your interest. If you look at the fashion category, the explorer will eventually show more fashion-related information.

The business explains, "In this case, we're examining how well-liked a post appears to be. These include indicators such as the quantity and speed at which other users are saving, sharing, and liking a post. In Explore, these signals are much more important than in feed or stories.”

Further, the company also mentioned that if you are stalking somebody with a public profile, you will be seeing more posts from them on your Explore feed, irrespective of whether you are following them or not. Further, the company said that history plays a major role to help the platform understand your interaction, signals, and other activities.
