Google Messages Update: Search leader Google announced seven new features for its popular messaging app Google Messages to celebrate its one billion RCS users milestone. Among the notable features was Photomoji for Android users. According to Google, the feature lets users transform their photos into reactions via Google's on-device artificial intelligence (AI) engine.
Based on the demo shared by Google, the feature will support humans, animals and other objects to react using Photomoji. This is similar to transforming your photos into emojis. Besides sending them as reactions, you can also send them as stickers in the app, according to 9To5Google.
The company noted that the option to create a Photomoji will pop up after long-pressing a message to react. After the creation of the emoji, it will appear in the reaction tray. Once you use the newly created emoji, it will be added below the text in a small size. It is not possible to use the Photomoji in texts while messaging at the time of filing.
With this in mind, here is a step-by-step guide on how you can create your custom Photomoji:
How To Create Photomoji In Google Messages
Step 1: Tap the 'Create' button below the reaction bar/emoji picker (You can also tap the emoji button in the text field)
Step 2: Click a photo or select a picture from the library that has a subject
Step 3: Wait for Google Messages to automatically identify the subject
Step 4: After you achieve the desired output, tap the 'send' (aeroplane) icon at the bottom right
These emojis can help offer a more personalised RCS chat experience on Google Messages. The recipient can view these images after a user reacts using a Photomoji. Others can also use them to react to conversations. You can resend these messages from the 'Custom' section of the keyboard. The option to delete a Photomoji appears after long-tapping the image. A user must note that no manual controls to manipulate the output are available at the time of writing.
Photos in Google Messages: Availability
According to Google's blog, the feature is available in the beta version of the app. Users can register for the beta program on Google Play to try out the feature. A wider release will likely follow later. You can download the latest package from the Google Play Store to ensure it is available on your version once rolled out.
