India Mobile Congress 2023 was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Friday. The largest telecom and technology forum in Asia will be held in the country from 27 to 29 October. In his inaugural speech, PM Modi shared thoughts on a wide range of topics on technology and India's growth. One such important aspect was cybersecurity, a growing concern in the evolving tech landscape.

According to PIB, the PM emphasised network infrastructure's safety and reflected on the discussions around 'Global Threats of Cyber Security' at G20. He noted that a self-reliant manufacturing value chain is key to ensuring a safe space in the cyber world. Once all the key pillars of manufacturing, like hardware, software and connectivity, originate from the national domain, it is easy to ensure security.

He also emphasised the need to foster discussions around keeping democratic societies safe from evolving threats. The PM expressed concerns about the lost opportunities to adopt new tech infrastructure in the past. "This period of the 21st century is the time of India's thought leadership," he said, while emphasising leaders must create domains that the world can follow.

An example of UPI, which revolutionised the payment infrastructure, was present in his speech. "Today, when we are realising the goal of becoming a developed India, the transition of moving forward as thought leaders can bring revolutionary changes in the entire sector", Modi concluded.

Over one lakh participants and 22 countries will attend the event at Pragati Maidan. On a related note, he also expressed a positive outlook towards the local manufacturing of flagship phones such as Samsung, Apple and Google Pixel.
