Today marks a momentous milestone in the history of India, as this occasion not only recognises the growth of technology in the country and its rapid advancement but also emphasises the historical steps it took us to get where we are today while celebrating National Technology Day. Historically speaking, this day marks a landmark moment where India conducted its successful nuclear tests on the grounds of Pokhran, Rajasthan, on May 11, 1998.

PM Modi On National Technology Day 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation on this occasion, highlighting how technology has become a key pillar in the nation's growth story, shedding light on its role in "accelerating innovation and expanding opportunities" across the nation's various sectors. The Prime Minister also expressed his thoughts on how India's nuclear tests showcased to the world the technological prowess that the country possessed at a time when only a few nations were powerful enough to have nuclear weapons. This day marks the anniversary of nuclear tests that took place between May 11 and May 13 in 1998, under the codename Operation Shakti, with former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee at its helm.
Apart from the technical capacity the nation has achieved, the Prime Minister also highlighted the role of scientists and expressed gratitude towards their contributions in nation-building and upholding the country's pride and self-respect on a global platform.
Taking to X (Twitter), Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed, "Greetings on National Technology Day. We recall with pride the hard work and dedication of our scientists, which led to the successful tests in Pokhran in 1998. That landmark moment reflected India’s scientific excellence and unwavering commitment.
Technology has become a key pillar in building a self-reliant India. It is accelerating innovation, expanding opportunities and contributing to the nation’s growth across sectors. Our continued focus remains on empowering talent, encouraging research and creating solutions that serve both national progress and the aspirations of our people."

Technology has become a key…
From the days of Pokhran to now, India has steadily grown into a major technology powerhouse, with artificial intelligence emerging as one of its biggest focus areas. Deloitte’s State of AI in the Enterprise: The India Insights report shows Indian businesses are adopting AI faster than many major economies, with enterprise adoption reaching 40 per cent against the global average of 28 per cent. Reflecting this shift, this year’s National Technology Day theme also highlights the use of AI for inclusive growth.

Adding further he expressed, "At Global Association of Risk Professionals, we believe that building future-ready talent with expertise in risk management, responsible AI, and critical thinking will be essential to ensuring that innovation remains sustainable and trusted. As India continues to strengthen its position as a global technology and digital talent hub, investing in risk awareness and resilience will play a defining role in shaping the next phase of growth.”
Adding further he expressed, "At Flamingo Aerospace, we see this as a defining decade. The focus must now move towards design ownership, digital engineering, and supply chain resilience to ensure that value creation remains within India. Building indigenous regional aircraft is not only about reducing import dependence, but about creating scalable, cost efficient solutions for emerging aviation markets globally. If India can align policy, capital, and engineering talent effectively, it has the potential to become a credible hub for civil aircraft manufacturing and a key pillar of a truly innovation led Viksit Bharat.”
Adding Further he said, "Looking ahead, India’s growth trajectory will be defined by how effectively it governs and scales this data ecosystem with trust, sustainability, and inclusivity at its core. Building a resilient innovation ecosystem will require deeper alignment across policy, platforms, and partnerships.
