PhonePe, a leading digital payments company, has launched the 'Indus Appstore Developer Platform'. With the move, the company is inviting app developers on the Android platform to upload and list their apps on the new app store, which will launch soon.

The store will offer a 'localized experience' in 12 languages, catering to the Indian audience. PhonePe added that the listing of apps will be free for the first year, after which the developers will have to pay a "nominal annual fee". The Appstore will not levy any platform charges or commissions for in-app payments.

In the press release, PhonePe added that developers would be allowed to integrate a payment gateway of their preference within their apps. This store will offer an alternative channel to diversify developers' apps in the Indian Android market.

The app market will offer "multilingual app discovery." For newer apps, the Indus store will have a dedicated space - 'Launch Pad' for better visibility and search results. A "round-the-clock customer support", the ability to host apps in 12 languages apart from English and engaging videos would be available for developers.

Indus Appstore Features

The option to login via phone number would eliminate the need for an email ID to use the app store. Developer assistance will be available via chatbot, email and account managers to solve issues of developers. The developers also have the option to roll out newer versions of their app package to a targeted group of users. Plus, the vitals of apps would be monitored using AI at the launch of a new app build.

"Despite being such a large consumer market, app developers have always been forced to work with only one app store – Google Playstore – for distributing their apps. Indus Appstore hopes to provide app developers with a credible alternative to the Google Play Store – one that is more localized and offers better app discovery and consumer engagement," said Akash Dongre, Co-Founder and CPO of Indus Appstore.
