Threads, Meta's new Twitter app that has been teased numerous times, has now been released to the public on both the iOS and Android app stores. Despite debuting hours ahead of schedule, the platform received 5 million user sign-ups in just 4 hours. Threads have already become a trending topic for users ever since Elon Musk imposed new restrictions on Twitter's microblogging network.

However, it is unclear whether Threads will outperform Twitter or vice versa. The platform has separated social media into two sections. One group of users believes that the Instagram-backed platform has an advantage over Twitter because of its ready user base, simple signup (using Insta data), and other features. According to another portion, Instagram is a more visual site, while Twitter maintains its news-oriented structure.

"Threads just passed 2 million sign-ups in the first two hours," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously stated.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Reply To Will Threads Become Bigger Than Twitter

When a user questioned CEO Mark Zuckerberg if the site will become bigger than Twitter, he replied that it would take time. "It will take time, but I believe there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion or more users." Twitter has had the opportunity to do so but has failed to do so. We can only hope."

Threads: What’s New

Users will be able to publish up to 500 characters, which is more than Twitter's character limit for non-Twitter Blue subscribers. Posts may also include links, photos, videos, or other materials up to five minutes in length.

Additionally, Instagram users will be able to log in with their existing usernames and continue to follow the same profiles on the new app. Those who do not have an Instagram account must sign in. Meta additionally maintains the security of its users' data by implementing Instagram's community guidelines and offering tools to adjust privacy settings.
